The third goal we intend to achieve in 2013 is to reach out to government organizations at the federal, state and local level to learn about appropriate grants and other resources, and engage this partnership and support. As Act #17, we pledge to do so in line with the following:
- Action: We will pursue at least two significant grant awards in 2013 principally to support our initial program build-out activities in Phase 1 (Walk) and Phase 2 (Run).
- Potential Sources (Federal): These include agencies such as the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. National Institute of Justice (NIJ), the U.S. Department of Education and the Office of Safe and Healthy Students (OSHS), the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the Administration for Children and Families, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), the National Institute for Mental Health, and the Office of Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities.
- Potential Sources (State and Local): These include agencies, departments and organizations such as state-specific departments for homeland security, education, justice, law enforcement, school safety and mental health. Here in Illinois, for example, these include organizations such as the Illinois Childhood Trauma Coalition, the Illinois School Health Association, the Illinois Safe Schools Alliance, the Illinois Department of Public Health, the Illinois Department of Human Rights, and the Illinois Center for Violence Prevention, among many others.
