The U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS Office) recently published Law Enforcement Best Practices: Lessons Learned from the Field, an in-depth guide that examines progressive practices being employed by law enforcement agencies across the country. The Law Enforcement subject matter experts at Hillard Heintze developed the guide in collaboration with COPS office based on our team’s combined experience working in various police departments; the assessment work we have conducted in numerous law enforcement agencies both large and small at local, state, federal and tribal levels; and our own primary research into what has worked well for agencies in the past and what progressive agencies are developing for the future. Download the guide to explore the areas we identified as having the greatest potential for advancing policing agencies:

  • Maintaining community trust
  • Resolving critical issues
  • Reinforcing legitimacy, and
  • Building relationships.
