Fraud and embezzlement are not new terms. They’ve been around since currency replaced barter in kind. Someone figured out it was easier to carry a small satchel of coins to the market than to throw four chickens over their shoulder.

I’m hardly suggesting you start pointing fingers at every accountant and payroll specialist you know. If you or your organization suspects there might be a problem, begin an internal investigation and gather the facts before accusing one of your employees. You never know what you might discover.
