Valon Xharra, PMP
For nearly two decades, Valon Xharra has served as a strategic business risk advisor for many Fortune 500 companies and CEOs. He has helped organizations from enterprises to public institutions manage their operational, reputational and security risks. Over his career, Val has built enterprise risk management programs, managed complex investigations, and conducted critical threat assessments for senior leaders confronting a wide range of risks, threats and vulnerabilities.
In his previous role as Senior Vice President at Gavin de Becker & Associates, Val helped create the company’s strategy to deliver enterprise risk management solutions to Fortune 500 companies with a focus on projects related to operational security and reputational risks. In addition, he provided security and privacy solutions to many high-net-worth executives.
As a Managing Director, Val led Control Risks’ commercial practice for the West Coast. In that role, he directed a team of account managers, advised technology clients on strategic and operational risks, and trained clients on crisis management and kidnap-for-ransom risks.
Val has extensive knowledge of the business and political environment in Eastern Europe. He has performed in-depth risk analyses and due diligence assessments to evaluate potential threats to foreign businesses in the region, as well as recommended strategies for foreign investment and acquisition.
Earlier in his career, Val served as a political analyst for the U.S. embassy in Kosovo and an advisor to numerous top U.S. diplomats and military officers. During the war in Kosovo, he assisted in negotiations between the Kosovo Liberation Army and the Serbian military forces.
Val holds a Master of Business Administration degree in management from Boston University and a Master of Arts degree in international affairs from Columbia University. He also earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science from Bard College. Val is a certified Project Management Professional.
