Jo Ann Ugolini, CPP, CFE, PSP
As Senior Director of Threat and Violence Risk Management, Jo Ann Ugolini leads and contributes to multiple client service teams as an expert in open-source database research, security risk analysis, threat assessment and fraud investigations. With more than 20 years of professional security experience, Jo Ann is a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and has been board certified in security management and physical security.
Before joining Hillard Heintze, Jo Ann served as the Manager of Business Risk Intelligence at Abbott Laboratories. In this capacity, she analyzed security risks to operations in Pacific Asia using open-source and vendor data, which was used to produce travel risk reports and business risk analysis. She co-developed a customized risk-mapping tool, which compiles and organizes risk data. Jo Ann was the lead analyst on projects which analyzed social media monitoring tools and served as the administrator and developer of Boolean logic for an open-source news aggregator. Jo Ann also served as Abbott Global Security’s expert on threat assessment and management. While Manager of Situation Assessment & Response, she oversaw the management of protective services including executive protection, special event security and executive mail screening, as well as developed a corporate e-learning workplace violence prevention training program. Additionally, Jo Ann conducted hundreds of internal and external threat and fraud investigations.
At BlueCross BlueShield of Florida, Jo Ann served on the team that restructured the security department, transitioning it from proprietary to contract security personnel. As Safety and Security Program Manager, Jo Ann selected and was responsible for the design and implementation of the incident reporting and dispatching system; developed a program to audit security staff performance; drafted department operating procedures; and assessed all potential workplace violence situations and other high-level, security-related investigations. She also managed the 24/7 Security Operations Center and its 12 operators. Prior to that, she was the Assistant Director of the Behavioral Assessment Division of Galahad Protective Services, Jo Ann was responsible for all case assessment, investigation and management of potentially violent situations involving high-profile public figures and corporate clients.
Jo Ann was the Director of Training and Mosaic Development at Gavin de Becker Incorporated, where she designed and developed computer-assisted violence risk assessment software systems, and designed, planned and promoted high-level training programs for corporate executives, government officials and law enforcement agencies. As Assistant Director of Threat Assessment and Management, she supervised high-level investigations and threat assessments.
Jo Ann is currently the Programming Director on the board of Infragard, and served for two years as the Committee Chairperson of Abbott Women Leaders in Action. She is affiliated with Association of Certified Fraud Examiners, Association of Threat Assessment Professionals, ASIS International and the FBI Citizens’ Academy Alumni Association. She is a Certified Protection Professional (CPP) and Physical Security Professional (PSP) through ASIS International. Jo Ann holds an MBA from the University of Phoenix, a Bachelor of Science degree from Pepperdine University and an associate’s degree in computer science from the University of Southern Colorado.
