When security programs are not kept up-to-date, the consequences extend beyond an increasingly rapid decline in the ability of the program to protect the organization’s people, assets and performance to often less obvious outcomes – such as the build-up of internal resistance to the security function and the increase in perceptions, whether valid or not, that security places unnecessary restrictions on key activities or that budgets normally allocated to security might be better spent in support of other priorities.
