Today, an increasing number of public and private entities are establishing an Office of Inspector General – either in response to a legislative mandate or in recognition of the merits of independent oversight and its positive impact on the overall health, growth and effectiveness of an organization.
Hillard Heintze supports the ability of organizations to quickly and cost effectively establish an independent Office of Inspector General program from scratch, or significantly improve the effectiveness of any single program element – from leadership and strategy to core operations, key resources and reporting.
Establishment of New Office of Inspector General — Strategic recommendations and support on establishing a strong, independent and sustainable IG function. Factors addressed include mission and authority, leadership, strategy, funding and budgets, policies and protocols, core process design, staffing, reporting and metrics, among others. Can include acceptance of appointment as organization's Inspector General on a permanent or interim basis.
Independent Assessment of OIG Program — Comprehensive review and assessment of OIG planning, operations, resources, activities and impact on the organization. Key focus areas can include IG adherence to independence and objectivity, broader evaluations of overall IG program effectiveness, and neutral, third-party reviews on issues of contention among stakeholders such as the IG, the parent organization, legislators, employees and the general public.
Operational Support to the Office of Inspector General — Transitional or ongoing support to existing Inspector General in conducting any or all facets of audits, investigations, inspections and evaluations.
Identification, Selection and Screening of Qualified IG Candidates — Leverage of our relationships and credentials across the nation's security and justice community to search for qualified candidates, vet their suitability and interest, and support the interview and engagement process from introduction to contract.
Members of the Board, Meet the New Inspector General
The question used to be: “Does your organization have an Office of the Inspector General?” Now it’s more likely to be “Why isn’t an Inspector General in place – and supporting your success?”
